Zuri Technologies has recently implemented S/MIME certificates to improve email security and build trust with our clients and partners.

S/MIME (Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) uses public key infrastructure (PKI) and asymmetric encryption to validate the sender and if required, encrypt the message.

By digitally signing emails with an S/MIME certificate, you verify yourself as the legitimate sender of the message, this assures the recipients that the message was sent by you. This makes it an effective tool against many phishing attacks, address spoofing & man-in-the-middle attack.

For example, an attacker impersonating an employee sends the CFO an email requesting confidential data or the release of funds. The CFO is tricked into thinking that the email was sent by the employee, as the email address has been altered to look like authentic, and falls victim to a phishing attack.

Key benefits of S/MIME Certificates

  • Protection from in-transit email tampering or corruption. No individual can insert any sort of malicious content (such as viruses, spyware, ransomware etc.) while the email is in transit.
  • Protection from email spoofing. Signing with digital signatures protects the email recipients from email spoofing. No one can impersonate the email address of the company’s official staff members.
  • S/MIME Encrypted emails protect against eavesdropping and help you remain complaint with various laws and frameworks such as GDPR.
