What is G-cloud ?
G-Cloud is a government framework designed to encourage the adoption of cloud services across the public sector and provide a secure platform where these departments can seek trusted technology partners to assist with their digital projects.
The framework was created in 2014 by Crown Commercial Service and Government Digital Service and is now in its 12th iteration, with G-Cloud 12, covering three categories of cloud services:
- Cloud Hosting: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
- Cloud Software: Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Applications
- Cloud Support: Support and maintenance services for cloud hosting and software

The G-Cloud framework makes it easier, faster, and safer for the public sector entities to procure cloud solutions from the SME community, taking advantage of world class technologies being developed within the SME space right here in the UK.
G-Cloud provides direct access to these trusted and approved cloud suppliers through a single portal via the Digital Marketplace.

The G-Cloud framework set up by the UK Government and managed by the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) enables UK public sector organisations to select and procure accredited cloud products and services. Ensuring all suppliers adhere to strict security principles to protect the availability and integrity of data & systems. CCS approval calls for a specific set of cloud security, service, pricing, financial, and technical requirement.
